Murau and the area around it

Murau, in the valley of the Mura, is a ski town in winter and a destination for cyclists and walkers in summer. Most of the sights are within walking distance.

In winter

The Kreischberg is seven kilometres away, the Lachtal and the Turracher Höhe are a day trip. If you would rather not ski every day, there are hiking trails and toboggan runs nearby.

In summer

The Murtal cycle path runs the length of the Mura, and Murau sits roughly in the middle of it. For walkers, the Stolzalpe and the surrounding hills offer routes. You can fish in the river too.

In the town itself

Schloss Obermurau and the Mariensäule on the Schillerplatz are a five to ten minute walk. The Murauer brewery is the town's calling card – you can visit it, and it is on tap in every local restaurant. Holzwelt Murau is an exhibition centre built around wood and the forest.
